Electro-Thermo-Convection of a Dielectric Liquid in the External DC and AC Electric Fields

The electro-thermo-convection of a dielectric liquid in horizontal capacitor is investigated under the autonomous charge injection from cathode and heating above. In case DC electric field, linear stability analysis carried out, thresholds monotonic oscillatory instability are determined. finite difference method used for numerical simulation nonlinear behavior electro-thermo-convective patterns: stationary convection traveling waves. AC, field transient permanent oscillations analyzed. Two types stable solutions found. modulated waves characterized by quasiperiodic convective characteristics. Another solution electroconvection (MEC). patterns MEC oscillate around some average flow synchronously with external AC do not move laterally. intensity mixing several times less than electroconvection. spatiotemporal evolution stream function, temperature, distributions different
